The evolution of indoor cycling is here. In 2026, we are seeing a massive shift in the industry. We are moving away from random movement and stepping into the era of mastery and precision. Sophisticated choreography isn’t just about “dancing on the bike”—it is a high-level cognitive drill that trains your brain as hard as your body.
For this month’s feature, we are spotlighting a perfect example of this technical excellence.
We travel to Spinco Thornhill to break down a “64-Count Combo Challenge” delivered by the incredible Brittney Tam (@brittneytam). As an ex-national team athlete and Lululemon ambassador, Brittney brings a level of discipline and clarity that is setting the new standard for the podium.
The Breakdown: 64 Counts of Precision
Why do we love this combo? Because it challenges your cognitive load. Cognitive load in cycling refers to the mental effort required to process the rhythm, anticipate the next move, and execute it with biomechanical safety—all while maintaining your RPM.
In this video, Brittney breaks down a complex chain into digestible “blocks.”
Here is the sequence to practice:
-
Block 1: Tap Backs into a “Walk it Down” (2 pumps).
-
Block 2: Walk it Out (Right Hand lead) to Top Bar.
-
Block 3: The “2-1-1” Count (Top Bar isolation).
-
Block 4: Russian Twist (engaging the obliques).
-
The Finish: A synchronized “Clap” to reset the mind.
Notice how she cues? “Mark it mentally. Execute with precision.” This is the difference between an amateur ride and a professional experience.
Why This Matters for Instructors
As we pivot to the Indoor Cycling Society, our mission is to professionalize the podium. Teaching a 64-count combo isn’t about confusing your riders; it’s about trust. You have to build the blocks clearly so your riders feel successful when they finally nail the full sequence.
Technique Tip: When executing the “Russian Twist” segment on the bike, focus on Dynamic Stability. Your goal is to dissociate the upper body from the lower body. Keep the hips quiet and the pedal stroke smooth while the thoracic spine rotates. This engages the deep core stabilizers rather than just using momentum.
